Fruita Colorado – The Real Jurassic Park

A Jurassic Era paradise

Fruita Colorado

Fruita Colorado sits in what is now known as the Grand Valley. Over 250 million years ago, the area was lush with the Western Interior Seaway cutting across the valley. This was a prime spot for a variety of dinosaurs, mammals, and marine lifeforms. The Grand Valley stayed a habitable environment for dinosaurs for the majority of The Mesozoic Era, 251.9 to 66.0 million years ago.

The Morrison Formation, which Fruita is very to close to, is a distinctive sequence of Upper Jurassic sedimentary rock found in the western United States which has been the most fertile source of dinosaur fossils in North America. Elmer Riggs started the Dinosaur discoveries in Fruita, in 1900, when he discovered a Brachiosaurus. From then on Fruita has been a hot bed of fossil discoveries with 2 Dinosaurs named after the town itself, after they were discovered there.
